dragonyphoenix: Blackadder looking at scraps of paper, saying "It could use a beta" (snoopy xmas)

I've been thinking ways for Anya and Snape to meet. Voldemort as the big bad of BtVS season 7. The Council, as Muggles threatened by the wizarding war, beg Buffy to come to England and take out Voldemort. Of course the Scoobies go with.

If you're still willing to, I'd love it if you'd make the graphics. I wasn't sure, with all the weird stuff going on with the original author, if you'd still want to and didn't want to put you into the uncomfortable position of having to decline.

I also don't get it. Pretty much any playing with the story is okay except remixes, oh but some remixes are fine. That totally does not make sense to me, but then if someone wanted to remix one of my stories I'd be jumping up and down with glee.

The story needs to be posted on Saturday for the CoF remix and I get that's a bit close. However, I was figuring that for AO3 I'd post a scene (letter) a day. These two that I want images for are way down near the end of the story and it's 20 some odd pages long so you'd have more than enough time to work on the images.

This entire kerfuffle did inspire me to actually look up the text of US Copyright law, just for the hell of it. Not that that really has any bearing here anyway.

I think if the OP doesn't want their story to be played with, then forbid all remixes. You can't allow it in some instances and not others and oh, btw, the OP does realize that their fan fiction is in essence a "remix" of the original works?

Oh and if you're not sure what I would feel comfortable with, next time do NOT hesitate to ask me, hon. I'll tell you straight up either way.

Well, that's certainly what caused the problem in the first place. It never occurred to me that a remix wouldn't be okay on a story she'd already allowed to be remixed.

I'll try to keep that in mind, but that wasn't all that was going on. I was feeling uncertain whether I would go through and post the story. I probably was not actually uncertain, but I was feeling that way.

And just to clarify again - you were remixing the original story or remixing the remix?

I was remixing the remix.

Yeah, and....this is a big ole headscratcher as far as I am concerned. Because once a story has been remixed once, there are elements original to the remix and if anybody gets to say "please don't remix again" it should be the remix author, not the OP, right? (Believe it or not, copyright law appears to protect original story elements in a collaborative work or work based on the works of another artist, so the Remix Author has the right to say, "I'm ok with my story being remixed" as far as I can see, even from a legal standpoint. Which is neither here nor there._

But - you've bent over backwards to honor the OP's request insofar as possible without scrapping your hard work entirely, and that was very decent of you to do so. (I don't see that the other person did the same on their end. And what of the author you were actually remixing, have they been cut out of the conversation entirely?

Actually sroni, the author I'm remixing, has been very helpful. She went through her story to identify which elements came from the original series and which were new with her.

Sroni herself did not chime in about the remixing although her dad, aadler, did.

I saw aadler's post and - there are points I disagree on but I'm not in this community anyway and good on him for admitting his mistake.

I certainly don't agree he's mostly at fault. I had just as much opportunity, if not more, to stop and think "Hmmm, perhaps I should check with the original author first." But that's me. Charging in where angels fear to tread.

And I disagree with your disagreement. He'd running the show, it's up to him to make sure that everyone wants to play. As an author coming into a comm, I would have assumed that was done by the mods.

Ah, I see your point, but I think each of us had a responsibility to think of the original author. That neither of us did speaks to the fact that the original author's policy is unusual and unexpected.

On that we can agree.
