Jo Walton’s My Real Children was a co-winner at this year's Tiptree Awards an annual literary prize for science fiction or fantasy that expands or explores our understanding of gender. I'm a fan on hers (Walton's) and am doing the happy dance for her. *grin*

All categories are now in. First congrats to these amazing winners: Antennapedia, Beer Good Foamy, Dracofidius, Eurydice, Giles Candy, Il Mio Capitano, Indri, ProtoNeoRomantic, Skuzz Bopper and Witch Way, Sue World, Thea Bromine, and Wicked Fox.

And, of course, many thanks to Giles Candy and Dracofidus for all their hard work. Also, thanks to the many judges.

And last, but not least, my wins!
On This Side of Goodbye as best Giles gen fic. I'd love to take full credit for this but comments and feedback greatly improved and expanded it. GillO and pickamix stand out in this regard. And the judges' lovely words: “The judges greatly admired the inventiveness of this tale, with its highly original plot. Strong characterization and writing skills carried us through a believable, difficult tale of Giles made young, and gave us a new view of Giles, and his background. We especially enjoyed the vivid way Faith is shown in her dealings with young!Giles.”
Headline Awards On This Side of Goodbye 1

In the Middle of a Mistake came in as Runner Up in the Best Giles Romance Fic category. I didn't think it was romancey enough to win so Yay! And the judges' kind words: “We enjoyed this creepy example of a Ripper story, exploring the start of his relationship with Ethan with originality, wit, and foreboding - not forgetting an offscreen role for the Slayer, too.”
Note: I did, just see, that it lists me as dragonydreams here.
Headline Awards In the Middle of a Mistake 2

And, yay, I wasn't the only wordy judge!

Yay! Two of my stories were nominated at the Willowy Goodness Awards.

In the categories of Best Crossover Author, Best Willow Crossover, Best Comedy, and Best Willow Characterization, The Revelatory Power of the Feminist Revolution is Obvious, Right?

In the categories of Best Willow/Spike Author, Best Willow/Spike Fic, and Best Alternate Universe, Shanshu. Geez, Willow and Spike haven't even met yet! *huge grin*

And a big thanks to whomever nominated me. *doing the happy dance*

In a Corner of My Soul was nominated at the Headline Awards. *doing the happy dance* Thanks!

Three of my stories have been nominated at the Headline Awards.

  • On This Side of Goodbye - while I don't read the comics, I am aware that Giles was brought back as a twelve year old. This is my take on how that went down. Even though I haven't read his version, I think mine is funnier than Joss' 'cause I just roll that way.

  • In the Middle of a Mistake - written for the prompt “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.” - Bonaparte, this story tells how Ripper and Ethan met, not nearly as well as Indri's In the Morning of the Magicians though. But mine is cuter and much, much shorter.

  • The Hero - Awww, Giles realizing he's not the hero.

Thanks anonymous friend. You can mosey on back to our little town anytime, ya hear? (Yeah, I don't know what that is either.)

Yes, I know I'd already announced taht I'd met my goal but I kept going because Heaven forfend I should stop at 50,000 words. No, I have to keep my daily writing goal up until the end of the month to end at 66,538 words (or 66485 words if you believe their validator which is probably more accurate. Open Office has word couting bugs all over the place.). Phew! Glad this month is over.

And what have I learned?

  1. I can write 2000 words in a day ...

  2. ... but it's tough.

  3. I can write 1000+ words an hour but only if I don't stop to think about what I'm writing, which doesn't always work well.

  4. I can write fast or I can write well, but not both or at least not both yet.

  5. I really do love to procrastinate.

Hey, I've got two nominations at the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfic Awards! *does happy dance* pickamix nominated me as best beta - she's so sweet! - and In the Middle of a Mistake was nominated as best slash. Thanks!

Edit on 10/1: Apparently pickamix was not the person who nominated me as best beta. I'm not sure who did then. I sometimes send unsolicited beta comments to kerkevik and some poor newbie got a bunch of comments from me recently. I can't think of anyone else I've betad for lately.

I'm an Unsung Hero in the Running With Scissor Awards in the Where's My Cookie category (drabbles) for A Very Important Date. I think that means third place, but I'm not sure.

I've been nominated over at the Sunny D Awards as best beta for Megan (thanks ShakenSilence!) and in the Best Unconventional Pairing category for Conjuring Love From the Ashes of an Old Flame, although I'm not sure what the unconventional pairing is: doesn't everyone write Willow/Angelus and Willow/Spike?  ;-)

Oh, and thanks also to ShakenSilence for my new Halloween icon!
